European Union approved the Operational Programme „Competitiveness and Innovation“

The European Commission adopted the operational program "Innovation and Competitiveness" for the period 2014-2020, which provides about 1.39 billion. Euros to be invested in Bulgarian economy. Almost half of them - 1.18 billion., Will come from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The aim of the program is to stimulate economic growth and to increase productivity, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Will promote cooperation between business and research networks as a whole - entrepreneurial activity. To achieve these goals will play a major role financial instruments such as bank loans, guarantees and equity investments.

In addition, the program includes measures for more efficient use of resources in businesses and increase their energy efficiency.

It is expected to be financed over 9000, to deploy more than 1 billion. Euros of private investment to increase the number of innovative enterprises to jump productivity of small and medium businesses, to drop the energy consumption in the economy.

According to Kristalina Georgieva, Vice-President of the European Commission budget and human resources, SMEs are the largest employer in Bulgaria and a key driver of the economy. "The new program invests in the development and creation of new jobs. I wish you success and significant results for our economy and the living conditions of our citizens," said Georgieva.
